When thinking of Aquarius, we think of freedom and rebellion which are relatively positive things, but we easily forget that Pluto is the god of the underworld and associated with not-so-positive things such as mass violence and terrorism. The last time Pluto was in the Aquarius (1779-1798) the American Revolution had just kicked off; the British-ruled colonies of America would fight for and gain independence from the British Empire and the foundation of what is now the United States would be built. However, a barely acknowledged fact about this time period is that the institution of slavery was expanding quickly and had become normalized and to some extent encouraged. So, while the Europeans who moved to the Americas were enjoying their newfound freedoms, establishing their version of democracy, and building the foundations of American capitalism, they were actively stripping the freedoms, rights, and humanity of other groups of people which has had lasting effects still felt today.

This time around, I believe that the rights of people will be revoked again. This time, children and families will lose rights, especially those who are black; black persons of African and Caribbean descent are of interest because of Pluto in Aquarius’s connection to American slavery. This transit will haunt and eventually conjunct the United States’ natal Moon in Aquarius, the planet of motherhood and family. In my opinion, the Moon also represents disenfranchised and marginalized people which includes the above-mentioned groups of people as well as queer and disabled persons. Basically, anyone who is not a white/European heterosexual male will get the short end of the stick as modern history entails. The future of black and marginalized people will be a major point of contention for the next 20 years while this transit is happening especially once it begins to approach the U.S.’ Moon. Intersectionality should and will become the key to unifying people if we are to stop the stripping away of fundamental human rights.
With racism prevalent almost everywhere except Africa, for the most part, the next 20 years will be the cultivation of safe havens so that black and marginalized people can be a part of the future and be independent from white/European institutions, legislation, and social ideals. Black Wall Streets across the global diaspora may manifest, but it will be tough since Pluto is not the nicest planet. With new havens coming in, the old ones have to be thrown out. Organizations and societies that advocate for marginalized people and children, especially those centering black persons, will gain political power, go through major changes, or shut down completely. Keep an eye on HBCUs, NAACP, Planned Parenthood, and local and international nonprofits that serve these people as they will strongly feel the effects Pluto in Aquarius.
Being that Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, the planet of invention and change, it’s a time of renovation. Uranus’ transit through Gemini and Cancer from 2025-2040 will put schooling at the forefront and result in major changes that may lead to a rise in homeschooling. Gemini is a sign of intellect, to an extent, and early education, and Cancer is the sign of the home and comforts. These changes include the continued banning of books, changes to curriculums and how school will be conducted in general, and the questioning of the validity of what is taught in public, charter, private, profit or non-profit schools. Political figures with Aquarius placements will be given the necessary fuel to make these things happen.
