As a practicing astrologer, I do not typically use Chiron in any chart interpretation. My honest reason for this is because I do not quite understand the asteroid’s significance in a chart. I have notes about Chiron and have a beginner’s grasp of what it signifies as well as some understanding of its mythological story, but when in combination with other parts of a birth chart such as aspects to planets and house placement, its meaning and purpose gets lost in translation.
To me, the things Chiron signifies can easily apply to a planet instead. For example, Chiron is a teacher in Greek mythology, but this is said of Jupiter as well. It wasn’t until a few days ago when I took the initiative to know more about the centaur as well as what my natal Chiron in Sagittarius meant.
According to the Internet
In astrology, a zodiac sign and planet’s significance and purpose are always up for debate and personal interpretation. In fact, astrologers are subjective in some or most of their interpretations, even I am prone to being so. Trying to find an unbiased and astrologically correct (the Sagittarian urge for truth only) took me down at least 5 Google search pages and 10 YouTube videos. In all, only a few tidbits of the interpretations I read and listened to actually applied to me, and this is understandable considering single placement interpretations without the rest of a birth chart are meant to be very general and will not apply for everyone.
I also noticed that some astrologers were using Chiron in Sagittarius and Chiron in the 9th house interchangeably: these are not exactly the same thing. While the 9th house is the natural house of Sagittarius, they differ in that the 9th house denotes religions, spiritual beliefs, and philosophy, and Sagittarius is seeking truth and wanting to obtain knowledge which can apply to anything like seeking truth in agriculture or learning about agriculture in great lengths.
Sagittarius is referred to as the teacher of the zodiac, just as Chiron, and teachers are typically well versed in other things in relation to their selected field and a master of a specific subject. To paint the picture better, if I were to be called a teacher, my selected field of study and mastery would be Astrology. However, I possess knowledge of, but not necessarily mastery on, mythology, astronomy, and spirituality; all of which colors my astrological knowledge.
Habits of a Chiron in Sagittarius Native
Chiron is referred to as the wounded healer. In his mythological story, this centaur was a great teacher with mastery in medicine who molded the likes of Achilles and Hercules (sometimes spelled Heracles). His wound is the result of an accidental poisonous arrow shot by his student, Hercules. The major lesson of Chiron, at least from my subjective point-of-view and research, is that your gift can lead to your downfall. A fall from grace sort-of trope.
Applying the above to the placement of Chiron in Sagittarius–a fellow centaur whose mythological story is intertwined with Chiron–our constant search and hunger for truth in any subject can lead us to a truth or fate that we are not ready to hear and ill-prepared to handle that can send us on a knowledge binge that can easily slip into spiritual psychosis or falsely calling ourselves genius or claiming to be smarter than everyone else.
On the other hand, Chiron in Sagittarius can make for people with great, well-rounded perspectives. Centaurs are half human, half horse making them connected to human aspiration for divinity but prone to animalistic tendencies.
The Remedy
Being humble is the key for Chiron in Sagittarius natives. We may know a lot, and are sometimes praised for our knowledge, but we don’t know everything, and we never will. This Universe is older than we could ever fathom, and history has been skewed and incorrectly taught for centuries, therefore our perception of reality is skewed.
The continued efforts of trying to discover or create one whole, absolute truth is our downfall. Like the Archer (Sagittarius’ symbol) we must shoot and let the arrow go, the arrow in this case being the desire for more knowledge. We can aim all we want at a specific target, but the arrow ultimately decides were it wants to go just as the poisonous arrow of Hercules decided to hit Chiron. This is a metaphor for the idea that the Universe, God, or Deity has the final say in what happens in our lifetime.
The final thing I want to say to my fellow Chiron in Sagittarius natives is that acceptance is our biggest lesson. It’s okay to be wrong, it’s all about how you adjust to the new information. It’s also okay to question the world around you, but you must be okay with the answers you receive. Do not obsess or try to control the outcome of the knowledge you are seeking.
