Cancers are the monarch of the emotional plane. With Neptune, the god of the seas, as their esoteric ruler, Cancers manage and balance their own emotions and the world’s emotions. The Moon, whose gravitational pull causes fluctuations in ocean tides, is their traditional ruler and is the cause for their particular sensitive nature. The problem with Cancers is the identification with the waters instead of as the director of them.

The first half of Cancer’s lifetime they position themselves as the ocean and will allow others to act as the Moon and cause waves and ripples. The existence of others is enough to create unsteady waters resulting in disruption and in extreme cases destruction. Intense mood swings and an increase in disorders such as anxiety and depression can be a reoccurring obstacle. This stage can be understood as emotional experience.

The second half of their lifetime consists of water that is still but murky. At this stage, the Cancerian must filter and distill their ocean and return to its original state of stillness and clarity so that what lives in the water can be seen and light has a perfect surface to reflect off. They are now dealing with the remnants that others have left upon them. This stage may be better understood as emotional healing.

Towards the end of their lifetime and the ultimate goal for every Cancerian is to embody the energy of Neptune. That is, intently observe their waters to preserve its stillness and clarity. This last stage can be understood as emotional intelligence. If you are born as Cancer Sun, Cancer ascendant, possess a Cancer stellium (3 or more planets), and/or have North Node/Rahu in Cancer, you were born to master the emotional plane so that the task in your next life, whatever it may be, will be easier to accomplish.
